Success behind the 3 point line carried Adams Central past Alliance 71 to 29 in girl’s basketball play on Wednesday. Overall, the Lady Patriots from Hastings canned 11 treys in downing the Dogs. The game was for third and fourth place at the Boone Central holiday tourney. With the defeat, AHS falls to 2 and 6 on the season. The contest was played in Albion. Reese Armstrong was Alliance’s top scorer with 7 points. Adams sank 3 straight treys in the first period to build a nice lead. Alliance trailed 43 to 16 at halftime. Boone Central won the championship in the late affair, defeating Broken Bow for first.
Helped by a pair of threes, Adams roared to a 10 to 1 lead in the first period. Alliance got a free throw by Brinlee Lanik for their lone tally. A three point play by Armstrong ensued as the Dogs got within 6. At the midway point, Hastings took control. The Lady Patriots went on a 13 to 2 spree to surge ahead by 17 at 23 to 6. Three 3s in a row paced the AC run. Alliance would get 2 pointers by KK Adams and Armstrong to end the period. Heading to the second, the Lady Dogs were down 23 to 8.
Twenty more Patriot points in the second denied an Alliance rally. The scoring in the second began with 5 straight by Hastings that put the Dog deficit at 20. Alliance then got a three and a free throw by freshman Olivia Krejci to stay in striking range. The points came with 4 minutes remaining in the half. Adams Central answered back with another strong spree to extend its margin. Helped by 2 more 3 balls, AC went ahead 41 to 12. AHS would get buckets by Brook Bailey and Addison Weber in the last stages but still trailed at half 43 to 16.
Quarter #3 had the Patriots increasing their lead. Hastings outscored Alliance 18 to 10 to move ahead 61 to 26. Three more 3 pointers by AC kept the Patriots in control. Alliance would get treys by Lanik and Bailey in the period and deuces from Armstrong and Hannah Benzel to account for their points. After three periods of play, Alliance was down by 35.
Weber started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 2 but 8 consecutive tallies by Hastings followed. Overall, Adams Central would get the better of the Dogs in the finale. Hastings put 8 more points in the scoring column and held Alliance to just 3. Bailey swished a free throw for the Dogs for their last tally in the closing moments. Final. Adams Central 71.
