As we live our lives we have those who challenge our way of living, our faith and the standards we hold dear. It has always been that way. Biblically, in the book of Genesis, Adam and Eve were challenged to leave God’s standard to go their own way. Noah also had to stand strong against those around him in building the ark. Jesus prayed continually for God’s will in order to stay strong doing God’s work.
Today we either find courage to keep our standards in God’s will, or we cave in to those without solid standards. We pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:9), but find ourselves challenged to do what we know isn’t the standard of heaven. In heaven there is always forgiveness, always love, always adoration for God and Jesus, always joy and rest. A commentator, McKenzie, asks, “If it won’t be in heaven, why tolerate it on earth?”
What would change if those who call themselves Christian always stood for biblical standards? What would happen if the goodness of heaven became our earthly standard? Would life be different? Let’s try together!
