Falconaires to Perform March 8

By CSC College Relations

CHADRON – The U.S. Air Force Academy Band’s Falconaires will present a free, public concert at the Chadron State College Memorial Hall Auditorium on March 8 at 7 p.m. Tickets are not required, and doors will open at 6 p.m.

The Falconaires have brought the sounds of big-band jazz to international audiences for more than 50 years. The jazz ensemble is a 19-piece big band of active-duty professional airmen-musicians who tour the country performing classic jazz, including familiar hits from acts such as Count Basie, Stan Kenton, and Glenn Miller, as well as new music written especially for this ensemble.

According to a release from the U.S. Air Force, big band is the only musical genre that can trace its heritage back to the American military band. Made popular by its mainstream appeal during WWII, the big band continues to present a sound and excitement unmatched by any other musical ensemble.

Technical Sergeant Benjamin Paille, The Falconaires’ tour manager, said the free concert came about when the group realized CSC is midway between their planned tour dates in Rapid City and Colorado Springs. According to Music Professor Dr. Rick Puzzo, the concert is provided free as a community service.
