The leaves are about to start changing, the days are getting shorter and the average highs and lows for the day are getting cooler. But you have to admit, this can be a beautiful time of year in some areas of the U.S. as the leaves start to get colorful.
So let’s go over some of the prime viewing spots and when is the best time to be there. We’ll start with some areas that are getting very close to peak time as we speak. The end of September is a good time to visit northern New Hampshire and Vermont; these areas are world renown as some of the best places to go for colorful foliage. Also towards the end of September, it may be a good time to travel a few hours by car to the Rocky Mountains.
Just about all of the trees in the Rockies in Colorado are changing color at this time. A little further away, the trees in the Wasatch Range located just east of Salt Lake City in Utah are looking good. Also, parts of southwestern Montana and northwestern Wyoming are good viewing areas at this time. If you are so inclined to travel up towards the Canadian border, northern Minnesota and the U. P. of Michigan are both very good places for some colorful leaves.
