Students from across the Panhandle will join thousands of other youth on athletic fields across the nation this Fall to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the 18th annual national Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ (FCA, www.fca.org) Fields of Faith event. This rapidly growing, interdenominational outreach event will be held at more than 500 locations throughout the nation.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend to take a stand in the Christian faith as one body of believers alongside these students. This event will be held at Bearcat Stadium in Scottsbluff. Food trucks will be serving food starting at 6 p.m., and the program will kickoff at 7 p.m. on Sept. 28.
“We see brokenness and division all around us. People are hurting, and we know the only true life-giving answer to this problem is Jesus Christ. We want to unite the Panhandle in this truth and encourage one another to live out our Christian faith boldly,” says Melissa Turman, the FCA Area Director for the Panhandle.
The evening lineup includes an inspirational message from Drue Lovgren, the sister of the late Husker quarterback Brook Berringer, local coach and student testimonies, and worship led by Unite.
Fields of Faith began with an idea from Jeff Martin, FCA’s Executive Director of Campus Sport Ministry, who longed to help today’s generation of students face spiritual battles and temptations. He felt that God was telling him that the answer lay in the students themselves—that they had the power of the Spirit to point the way to Christ for their peers as well as their communities.
“What started out as a thought and a prayer has turned into a huge national event, all through the power of Christ. It’s amazing that Fields of Faith has grown to welcome nearly a quarter of a million people to athletic fields where they can pray and worship together,” Martin said. “We are so thankful for the students who feel passionate about sharing their faith with their fellow students so they, too, can see how Christ can impact their lives. There’s no doubt that God is working through these young people and will continue to do so for years to come.”
