Fourteen students from Alliance High School recently participated in the Nebraska Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America District 12 STAR Event Competition. This annual event was held at St. Bridget’s Catholic Parish Center and featured over 35 competitors from the area.
One Competitive Event available to FCCLA members is STAR Events: Students Taking Action with Recognition. STAR Events recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative, individualized, and competitive activities. District 12 hosted 15 events during the conference.
Students are evaluated by judges using a rubric system and have the opportunity to earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze rating. The top two finishers in each event level, who earn a Silver or Gold rating, qualify to compete at the state competition, which will be hosted as part of the State Leadership Conference. Students from the Alliance High School chapter received the following ratings in their respective categories:
• Kealee Jelinek & Taylee Thompson – Chapter Service Project Display – Received: Silver
• Kate Liu, Ann Ryan & Jordyn Yearling – Event Management – Received: Silver
• Valeria Carrillo & Marlene Lopez Garza – Focus on Children – Received: Silver
• Emma Wood – National Programs in Action – Received: Silver
• Jonah Amill – Professional Presentation – Received: Silver
• Annaka Digmann – Repurpose and Redesign – Received: Silver
• Emily McCune – Sustainability Challenge – Received: Silver
• Kalli Bridge – Sports Nutrition – Received: Gold
• Shelbee Burke & Mikayla Seebohm – Promote and Publicize FCCLA! – Received: Gold
All AHS contestants are state bound.
Another exciting event that happened at District Competition was that AHS students, along with students in the surrounding towns, had the opportunity to become elected as District 12 Officers. An FCCLA District Officer has many duties and responsibilities that enable them to become better leaders and help them learn how to work responsibly and efficiently with others. Two students from AHS were elected into office. These ambitious individuals were Sophmore Kalli Bridge, and Freshman Emily McCune. Kalli Bridge was elected as the Vice President of Public Relations and Emily McCune was elected as Vice President of Finance and Secretary.
All in all Alliance High School FCCLA had a very successful day.
