On Thursday evening, a fire broke out in a home, resulting in a total loss of the structure and its contents.
Alliance Volunteer Fire Department Chief Troy Shoemaker, explained that firefighters received the report of a fully-involved structure fire.
“It was a fully-involved trailer house,” said Shoemaker. “We responded with an engine, our aerial and then a command vehicle.”
Shoemaker explained that at the time of the fire, the department was also responding to an EMS call. He noted that no injuries were reported from the fire.
“There were no injuries to the occupants, they were actually not home when the fire started,” Shoemaker said. “And there were no injuries to firefighters. That went as good as expected. We ran about four calls at the same time while fighting the structure fire. We were stretched pretty good.”
While fighting the fire, firefighters were affected by the frigid temperatures, though, Shoemaker noted, they did not have any of their hoses freeze.
“The cold affected the people,” said Shoemaker. “The hydrant didn’t freeze up on us, our attack lines didn’t freeze up, so, in that aspect, it was pretty good. It did start getting kind of slick there around the trailer, and it was kind of hard to hold onto some tools when we were trying to pull some skin back on the exterior of the trailer. The good thing is that nobody got hurt.”
Shoemaker said the fire was deemed to be accidental in nature.
