Hits in six of seven innings were not enough for the Alliance Navy team in a game played Saturday against Scottsbluff. The Spartans fell to the Westco club 7 to 1 to drop to nine and nine for the year. Alliance collected 9 hits for the battle but scored only 1 run. Five early tallies by the Bluffs made a comeback difficult. Starting pitcher Israel Garcia had 4 k’s in going 3 plus innings. Eban Lore also pitched. Three Spartans ended the game with 2 hits. They were: Garcia, Reese Muhr, and Fletcher Moseman.
In the first, Moseman had a knock but was left on the bases. Meanwhile, Westco had their best scoring frame in the bottom of the opening inning. Scottsbluff tallied 5 to take a big lead. Up 2 to 0, the Express got a 3 run scoring hit to surge ahead 5 to 0 after an inning of action. Garcia had a hit in the visitor’s half of the inning but was stranded. The Bluffs also failed to score in the bottom of the inning.
Inning #3 saw a hit by Moseman and no scores for the Navy. A double play twisted by the Peltz Co defense kept the Alliance deficit at 5 in the bottom of the inning. The Spartans would get hits by Logan Freiberger and another knock by Garcia in the fourth but no scores. Scottsbluff’s lead grew to 6 to 0 in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a pair of walks and a run scoring single.
Alliance again had a chance to break thru in the fifth with hits by Casyn Nelson and Muhr. Both runners failed to score as the Express continued to lead. Lore set down the Bluff’s bats in the home half of the frames. Inning 6 had Alliance going down in order while Westco got a tally with 2 hits and an RBI groundout. Heading to the finale, the Peltz Co was down 7 to 0. Alliance got one on the board in the 7th. Kyler Hamel walked and moved into scoring position after a hit by Kylar Adams. Muhr was next and his run scoring hit closed the gap to 6. The Express would then record the final outs and go on for the 7 to 1 victory.
