Five Run Second Inning Gives Spartan White Team its First Victory

Game #2 of a season opening doubleheader between the Tigers of Torrington and the Peltz Co White team started very similar to the first game. In the opener, the Spartans grabbed an early advantage only to see the guests rally for a 13 to 5 win. Game two had Alliance up big early and holding off a Tiger comeback to gain their first win on the year 10 to 5. With the victory, the Spartans now see their record stand at 1 and 1. The pair of contests were played Saturday in Alliance. Leading the offense for the Petlz Co were Kobe Strom and Jaxson Esparza who collected 2 hits each. Four Spartans ended with one knock apiece. They were: Tony Escamilla Nason Thompson Carter Nemnich and Creighton Fritzler. Miguel Galvin started the game for Alliance and went 4 innings, striking out 4. Pitching one inning each were: Lexton Salcido Escamilla and Braeden Clarke. The big inning offensively for the White team came in the second when Alliance tallied 5 runs to take a big lead.

An inning ending double play by the Alliance defense foiled a Tiger rally in the top of inning #1. In the home half of the first, the Spartans put 3 on the board. Aided by a pair of hit by batters and a single by Thompson, the hosts took the lead thanks to a bases clearing double by Nemnich. After one, Alliance was up 3 to 0. The Spartans continued their fine play in the second as the Tigers went scoreless and the Alliance offense put 5 more runs in the book. A couple of walks put an error by the guests and a 2 RBI single by Strom helped Alliance surge ahead 6 to 0. Thompson was next and his hit increased the Tiger deficit to 7. The inning came to a close with another miscue by Torrington and the Petlz Co in command 8 to 0.

Single runs in the top of the third and fourth innings by the Tigers closed their margin to 6. Another double play by the Spartans in the third stopped a Torrington rally. Strom had a hit for Alliance in the bottom of the fourth but the Spartans were denied any more tallies. After four innings of action, Alliance was out in front 8 to 2. The Tigers made things interesting in the top of the fifth. Torrington used three doubles and a triple to close the gap to 3 at 8 to 5. Alliance responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame. A single by Fritzler with one out started the scoring. Following an error by the guests, Fritzler was able to increase the Alliance lead by stealing home. The sixth saw no runs by Torrington and a single score by the Spartans on an RBI hit by Esparza. Another double play turned by Alliance in the top of the finale ended the battle with Alliance winning 10 to 5.
