Five Veterans Honored with Quilts of Valor

Five veterans were honored and wrapped with Quilts of Valor in a ceremony Tues, March 26, 2024 lead by Kathy Dye of Panhandle Blocks, the local chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. The American Legion Post #7 and American Legion Riders Panhandle Chapter # 43 also assisted.

The ceremony coincides with the National Vietnam War Veterans Day, which is March 29. All five of these Vietnam era Vets received commemorative medals in remembrance of the ending of the war.

The five veterans include:

Wayne Akert – US Navy – Scottsbluff. His quilt was pieced and bound by Cindy Zurn and quilted by Linda Schneider.

Wayne McCart – US Army National Guard – Alliance. His quilt was pieced and quilted by Vivian Spencer and bound by Nita Spencer.

Michael Reed – US Army– Alliance. His quilt was pieced and bound by Janet Clark and quilted by Chris Wolf.

Don Thomas – US Army National Guard-Alliance. His quilt was pieced and bound by Virginia Campbel and quilted by Linda Schneider.

Rick Turman – US Air Force – Alliance. His quilt was made by Linda Schneider.

A nice crowd of friends, family members and Panhandle Block members were in attendance.
