Alliance hosted Chadron on Tuesday in a Juniors ball game. The Spartans broke open a close matchup with 4 tallies in the fourth inning and went on to post a 5 to 3 win. With the victory, the Peltz Co now has a 17-2-1 record on the year. Alliance was down 3 to 1 heading into the bottom of the fourth but got 4 runs to take the lead for good. Kobe Strom was the Spartans starting pitcher and went an inning plus. In relief, Mikey Johnson was solid. Johnson went 4 plus innings and had 7 strikeouts. Lexton Salcido had a scoreless seventh in getting the save. The Peltz Co had 8 hits with EJ Garcia as the leader with 2.
A pair of singles in the top of the first gave the Platte Valley Companies an early 1 to 0 lead. Strom had 2 k’s in the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Alliance threatened but a double play by Chadron ended the inning. Two more PVC tallies in the second gave the guests a 3 run margin. A single, a couple of walks, and a wild pitch made the score 3 to 0. The Spartans failed to score in the bottom of the frame.
In the top of inning 3, Johnson had 2 strikeouts and kept the Peltz Co close. Alliance sliced into their 3 run deficit in the bottom of the third with one score. The White squad got a single by Fletcher Moseman, a sac bunt by Garcia, and a run scoring hit by Espen Lanik to close their gap to 3 to 1. Two more k’s by Johnson in the top of the fourth gave the Spartans a chance. Momentum then went to the hosts in the home half of the frame as Alliance plated 4 runs. Johnson started the inning with a walk and moved to second after a knock by Creighton Fritzler.
An RBI double by Jackson Smith was next, making it a 3 to 2 game. Kegan Nelson was next and his 2 run scoring hit gave the Spartans a 4 to 3 advantage . The spree ended with a hit by Garcia. After 4 innings, the Peltz Co led 5 to 3.
Innings 5, 6, and 7 saw no runs. Johnson had strikeouts in both frames to help Alliance maintain their margin. Salcido had a hit for the White club in the fifth but failed to score. In the sixth, Chadron went scoreless while another knock by Garcia was the Alliance highlight. PVC had one last chance in the seventh but Salcido held them without a tally. Final. Alliance 5.
