Four Run Second Inning Propels Preps Past Buckley 7 to 2

A big second inning was just enough for the Peltz Co. Prep team in their contest Sunday in a home game versus the Bombers from Buckley. The Spartans tallied 4 runs in the inning and went on to down Buckley 7 to 2. Starting pitcher Jackson Devlin went 4 innings for the Spartans, giving just 4 hits while striking out 5 and walking only one. Relief pitcher Smiley Valdiovinos got the final 3 outs in the fifth and final inning. Offensively Alliance had 7 hits and were led by third baseman Teegan O’Gorman who had 3. Also adding one hit each were: Reese Muhr, Mason Winter, Fletcher Moseman, and Israel Garcia.

A Bomber double began the action in the first but a successful relay play by the Spartans cut down the runner at third. A strikeout by Devlin ended the first with no scores. O’Gorman start the bottom of the first with a single but was stranded. After one inning of play the contest was tied at 0. Two Bomber hits in the second got the guests on the scoreboard as the visitors led 1 to 0 after an inning and a half.

The first three batters for the Peltz Co would reach to began the Alliance rally in the second. Devlin started the rally by reaching on a Buckley error Right fielder Preston Flores was then hit by a pitch, putting 2 runners on base.

Designated hitter Reese Muhr would then clear the bases with a 2 RBI hit as the Spartans surged ahead. Winter then followed by an RBI single that scored Muhr. The inning ended with Winter scoring on another single by O’Gorman. After 2 innings of action, Alliance was up 4 to 1. Buckley failed to score in their half of the third with Devlin recording his second K. Moseman helped the Spartans increase their margin in the third. The Alliance first baseman singled to start the inning and would score on a Buckley wild pitch.

Heading to the fourth the Bombers trailed 5 to 1. Two more Devlin strikeouts were key in the fourth. Buckley would tally 3 hits but only one run. In the fourth the Spartans kept the pressure on with 2 more runs. Winter drew a walk to began the inning and would scored on another hit by O’Gorman. The second run came when Garcia singled and O’Gorman scored. Heading to the final inning the Alliance lead grew to 7 to 2. In relief, Valdovinos surrender 2 hits but no runs.
