A 24 point fourth period performance by Gering was the difference Friday night in a girl’s matchup between the hometown Dogs and Alliance. The visiting Bulldogs from Alliance held a 34 to 25 lead heading to the final quarter but were overtook by fury of points by Gering. Six free throws down the stretch by Gering helped the hosts win the season opener for both teams. Gering was also victorious in the earlier game. The JV game went to Gering 44 to 27.
Both teams came out red hot in the opening period which ended tied at 14. A three by Alliance’s Regan Braun began the scoring for the A dogs and it was followed by free throws by Haylie Winter and Macey Seebohm that gave the guests a lead at 5 to 4. Down 9 to 5 it was baskets by seniors Jaelynne Clarke and CC Hudson that knotted the game at 9 midway thru the first quarter. An old fashion three point play by Hudson and 2 free throws by Addison Weber finished the Bulldog scoring and the period ended tied at 14. Clarke would then have a huge second stanza as Alliance gain the momentum. Nine points by Clarke which included a three points put Alliance ahead. Another free throw by Seebohm and a hoop by Hudson concluded the scoring for the A Dogs and the teams went to half with Alliance up 26 to 23.
Alliance’s defense was excellent in the third, holding Gering to just to 2 points. An early score from Seebohm helped Alliance get off to a good start. It was followed by 2 baskets by Clarke and bucket by Hudson. Heading to the fourth it was Alliance ahead 34 to 25. Foul trouble, turnovers, and hot shooting by Gering would hurt Alliance’s chances in the final 8 minutes. Alliance would commit 8 fourth quarter turnovers while both Clarke and Seebohm would foul out of the contest. Tied at 36 it was Gering surging ahead, scoring the game’s next 9 points. A three point play by Winter sliced the gap to 6 but 4 throws by the hosts sealed the contest. Bulldog Bailey Shannon ended the scoring for Alliance but it was too little, Final Gering 49 Alliance 41
