From the Desk of the City Manager: Reflections for the Week July 6-9

Public Works:

• Summer maintenance including: well maintenance, sewer jetting, street sweeping, right of way mowing; Brick repair by Newberry’s.

• Notice to proceed for street projects and conveyor project approved by City Council on July 5, 2021.

• Lift Station A excavation.

• Big Horn water project still underway. Sod will be replaced in yards beginning in September.

Fire:

• Responded to four firework related fires over the ten-day selling period.

• No EMS calls that were related to fireworks.

• Fielded numerous questions, concerns, and complaints relative to our fireworks ordinance.

• Over the last two weeks provided CPR training that included the use of AED’s to the Public Transit staff.

Airport:

• FBO gate is working with remotes but still waiting on parts so it is operational for everyone. Majority of the work is complete.

• Met with Ross and Bob from water department in regards to inquiry for sewer or septic system for aerial sprayer. Work continues on the requests for water and fuel.

• Worked on developing paint plan for the rest of the summer. Sign maintenance plan will be complete next week.

Police:

• Preparing for Heritage Days and National Night Out.

• Beat meetings continue.

• Testing for Police Officers held Friday.

Electric:

• We had a contractor in working on the Broadwater Substation, they repaired the tap changer and the substation is now in use.

• Installed the primary cables and terminated them from the new Public Works building.

• Installed the temporary power rack for the carnival workers to use at 2nd and Laramie.

• Have been performing load control on irrigation wells every day this week.

• Continue to work on the rebuild project at CR 64 and Rock Road.

• Continue to “squirrel proof” our lines.

BBDC:

• Alliance brochure being proofed this week.

• Carhenge rack card is being printed.

• BR&E visit to Westco/New Alliance.

• Scheduling other BR&E visits.

• Assisted ARC with DED Shovel Ready Grant application.

Community Development:

• Flood Plain mapping update: Finished collecting Lidar aerials and other base map data, and sent it to FEMA for review. Next quarter we will be calculating hydrology for floodplains.

• Mobile Home parks have started moving mobile homes in, and will start setting them next week.

Parks:

• Prepared Laing Lake for the Disc Golf tournament on July 10th.

• Staff continued to mow, trim, and fix irrigation.

• Staff over seeded areas and sprayed at Bower Park to start getting ready to host the senior state area tournament.

• Staff completed additional repairs to concession stands and public restrooms as needed.

• Assisted with repairing umbrellas and several pieces of equipment at the pool.

Pool:

• Swim lessons continued this week. Hours were expanded to later in the evening as the temperatures increased.

• Normal weekly training was conducted to ensure skills are kept up to date.

• All time blocks for pool parties are entirely booked for the remainder of the season.

Library:

• The Wonka promotion has been a giant success. Its success has resulted in the issuance of lots of new library cards.

• Summer reading is finished opening time for staff to do other projects.

• AR labeling has now moved into the Juvenile Fiction sections.

RSVP:

• Meals were served to between 50 and 60 individuals daily and included dine in and delivery meals.

Golf Course:

• Staff prepared for the Member Golf Tournament which to date has 56 teams registered; an increase over recent years.

• Play continues to be strong despite rising temperatures.

Museum:

• Staff hosted several tours during the week, and continued with research assistance and database development.

HR:

• Completed Job Status Report for Department Heads.

• Conducted Police Officer Testing.

• Conducted Transit Interviews with Public Works.

• Ensuring FMLA compliance requirements.
