A five run fifth inning proved to be too much for the Peltz Co prep club to overcome Sunday in their final game in North Platte. The Spartans dropped a 6 to 5 decision to the Bandits of Frontier County in legion baseball action. Alliance held a 5 to 1 leading going into the bottom of the fifth before a big rally by the Bandits. Alliance’s Kylar Adams was the starter for the prep, going 4.1 innings and was relieved by Cisco Cody and Braden Myers. Leading the way on offense for the Peltz Co were Cody, Cooper Gallas, and Esai Trejo who had one hit apiece.
Alliance was sharp on both sides in the early innings. The Spartans grabbed a 1 to 0 lead in the top of the first after a Gallas hit and an error by the Bandits. On defense, the Peltz Co turned a double play in the bottom of the first to denied a Bandit rally. Smart base running from Cody accounted for another tally for Alliance in the top of the second. Cody walked then stole 2 bags before scoring run #2 on a passed ball by Frontier. Adams held the Bandits scoreless in the home half of the inning and the contest went to the third with Alliance leading 2 to 0.
Frontier Co set down the preps 1-2-3 in the top of 3 and scored a run following a dropped third strike and a couple of wild pitches. In the fourth, the Spartans increased their margin. Walks to Alliance’s Silas Lilley-Stone and Dixon Bair began the inning. Following an out, a hit by Trejo plated the Spartans third run. A wild pitch then scored Bair and the scoring came to an end with Trejo scoring on a wild pitch. Cody added a hit in the inning but was stranded. In the home half of inning #4, Adams gave up no runs. Alliance also failed to score in the next try and the contest went to the bottom of the fifth with the preps up 5 to 1. Despite not getting a hit, the Bandits took the lead in their 5th inning at bat. Frontier Co used a couple of walks, two Spartan errors, a few wild pitches to surge ahead. An RBI ground out by the Bandits tied the game and Frontier took the lead after a miscue by Alliance. The Peltz Co bats were silent in their attempt in the top of the sixth as the Bandits took the 6 to 5 win.
