The Alliance Prep team completed a doubleheader sweep of Buckley on Tuesday, downing the hosts in game #2, seven to five. Alliance fell behind early, but 4 big runs in the second inning powered the Peltz Co to the win. Earlier in the evening, Alliance also defeated Buckley in game one 17 to 2. The nightcap was a closer contest with the Spartans holding off a late rally. Pitching for Alliance were starter Smiley Valdovinos and Fletcher Moseman. The Spartans could muster only three hits, but 3 walks and 3 Buckley errors were just enough.
Two of Alliance’s three hits came in their first at bat. A double by Moseman was followed by an RBI double by Israel Garcia as the Spartans got on the board first. Using a couple of walks and hits, Buckley came back with a 2 spot in the bottom of the opening inning. The affair went to the second with the Peltz Co down 2 to 1.
Alliance would tally 4 huge runs in the top of inning #2 despite having no hits. A lead off walk by Spartan Reese Muhr began the rally. Valdovinos then reached after being struck by a Buckley pitch. The Peltz Co then loaded the bases when Spartan Preston Flores took first after being hit by another pitch. Moseman knotted the game at 2 with an RBI groundout. Pinch runner Kyler Adams then gave Alliance the lead after stealing home. Back to back errors by the hosts on grounders from Cisco Cody and Jackson Devlin helped the Peltz Co lead grow to 5 to 2. Buckley was turned away scoreless in their second and the contest went to the third with the Spartans ahead by 3.
Two more runs in the top half of the third increased the Alliance advantage. Garcia walked to begin the inning and scored on an RBI hit by Valdovinos. Another run batted in groundout by Moseman put the Peltz Co ahead 7 to 2. Valdovinos held the hosts scoreless in the third. Alliance also went down in their turn to bat as the game went to the fourth and final inning, with the Spartans holding on to the 5 run margin. Things got a little scary for the Peltz Co in Buckley’s last frame. With 2 outs, the hosts got a walk, a triple, a single, and a wild pitch to cut their deficit to two. Fortunately for Alliance, the Spartans got a fly out for the last out. Final Alliance 7 Buckley 5.
