Taking a look at the Spartan’s week in a review, they brought their record to 8-12, where they took on Sidney, a doubleheader against Buckley and ended Monday’s game shutting out Gordon.
The Spartans kicked off their week against Sidney on June 8, where they had an easy win beating Sidney 14-1. The sixth inning was an absolute onslaught by the Spartans’ offense as they scored six runs in the sixth inning. Jakob Callan was the winning pitcher for Alliance. He went five innings, only allowing one run on three hits and striking out nine.
The Spartans had 12 hits. Landen Crowe, Tony Escamilla and Caeson Clarke managed multiple hits for Alliance, collecting two hits each to lead the Spartans. Brantz Halouska had two stolen bases.
The Spartans then went on to a doubleheader against Buckley on June 9, where they lost both games. The first game of the doubleheader was a close one, but a walk-off left the Spartans with a defeat of 4-3. Landen Crowe took the loss for the Spartans allowing three hits and two runs over two and a third innings, where he struck out four and walked one. Caeson Clarke went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits.
In the second game of the doubleheader Alliance out-hit Buckley seven to four, but it wasn’t enough. The Spartans lost 6-2. Clarke took the loss for Alliance, lasting four innings and allowing two hits and three runs while striking out three. Mario Garza led the Spartans with three hits in three bats.
The Spartans got a break. Their next game would not be until June 13, when they would take on Gordon at their home field. The last time the Spartans played Gordon, they came out with a win by one. This time the Spartans blew out Gordon, this time around with a score of 0-8.
Nick Wright put on a performance and threw a shutout to lead the Spartans.
“I think I did pretty well. I mean, they didn’t score any,” said Wright on how he felt about his performance.
Mario Garza led the Spartans to a victory by driving home four runs with a grand slam in the fifth inning.
“It felt good. We had trouble all year trying to score runners. It felt good being able to unleash,” said Garza on the grand slam.
Wright earned the win for the Spartans lasting six innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero.
Spartans Head Coach Carlos Palomo was pleased with the performance and had some comments after the game.
“It’s good to have some time off. The boys had the weekend off. It was their first weekend off since our season started well to regroup a little bit. Not only physically but mentally, our pitcher Nick Wright pitched really well tonight. He was able to get ahead in the count and we could make plays behind him. That was good to see. Mario had a big hit in the fifth inning that could put us up even more,” said Palomo.
