My name is Leigh Shakes-Yardley. I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I have two siblings – an older brother and a younger sister.
After high school, I moved to Tucson, Arizona for a year to work as an intern at an Arabian horse breeding farm. After moving back to Colorado, I earned my veterinary technician degree from the Animal Behavioral College. Working with large animals has always been a passion of mine, so that is where I spent the first several years of my career.
After moving to Alliance in 2015, I wanted to try my hand at a new career. I have always had a desire to help people and give back to my community, so becoming a dispatcher with the Alliance Police Department seemed like a natural fit. I have been with Alliance PD since 2016. The most fulfilling part of my job is being able to help people through moments of crisis and uncertainty.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and taking care of the zoo of animals I have at home, everything from dogs and cats to horses and chickens. When life allows, I also enjoy painting.
