Glen Dale Ward Obituary

Glen Dale Ward, 94, passed away, Friday, April 8, 2022 at Highland Park Care Center.

He was born December 6, 1927 in the section house in Berwyn, Nebraska to Richard Ray and Katheryn E. (Smith) Ward.

He married Jessie M. Allen on December 13, 1947 at the courthouse in Broken Bow, Nebraska.

Glen started working for the CB & Q Railroad in 1948, which later became the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and retired from there in 1989.  During his time working for the railroad he often acted as relief supervisor while they were on vacation.  He rode all of the Alliance territory on a motor car, which included from Ravenna, Nebraska to Billings, Montana, from Alliance south and west to Wheatland, Wyoming, from Alliance south to Sterling, Colorado and from Alliance north to Deadwood, South Dakota.  He also ran a track gang.  Following his railroad retirement, he worked for ALCO, Bill Heitz’ service station and did various handyman work.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie Ward of Alliance; his three daughters, Katheryn Herbaugh of Cheyenne, WY, Glenda (Doug) Pratt of Berea, NE, and Janet (Kevin) Votruba of Riverton, WY; 7 grandchildren and their spouses, 9 great-grandchildren and their spouses, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Dixie Jensen of Holdrege, Nebraska.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 1 grandson, and 1 son-in-law.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel.  Mr. Greg Carter will officiate.  Inurnment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alliance Eagles Club.
