Temperatures hovering around 40 degrees welcomed track teams to Bayard on Saturday for the CD meet. Sixteen boys and girls teams took part in the event. Taking home first in the team race for the girls were the Bulldogs from Bridgeport who tallied 87 points with Lingle-Fort Laramie ending second with 72 points. The Lady Bobcats from Hemingford were next with 71.5 points. There was a tied for first in the boy’s division with Burns and Lingle-Fort Laramie finishing with 101 points each. Bridgeport was next with 86 points while the Hemingford boys came in fourth with 81.5 points. The Lady Cats got a double gold medal effort from freshman Anislee Woltman who won both the mile and 2 mile races.
Senior Aurora Hinman continued her fine season by winning the 100 hurdles race with a time of 17.7. Hemingford also won the 2 mile relay with a time of 10:55. Members: Aurora Hinman, Desilee Hinman, Dakota Horstman, and Teagen Thompson. For the Bobcat boy’s squad, Hemingford took home first in three events. Sophomore Austin Benda won the 2 mile while Junior Keirith Yale won the high jump. The Cats were also strong in the relay events. Hemingford won the 2 mile relay and were second in both the 400 and 1600. Team members in the victorious 3200 relay were: Yale, Benda, Kaiden Casey, and Boady Hunter.
“Cooler temperatures, but hardly any wind, no precipitation, and few clouds led to really great early season conditions,” said Coach Joshua Dean. “Athletes competed across the board in almost every area. We have some great buy-in and competition from within for our relay teams.”
