Hemingford Handles Hyannis for Second Win of the Season

Scoring in all three phases of the game, the Bobcats from Hemingford defeated the Longhorns of Hyannis 58 to 8 in a ball game played Friday in Hyannis. Two returns for scores by Cat Jayce Haas paced the guests as Hemingford improved to 2 and 0 for the year. The Bobcats also got a scope and score from defensive end Talon Payne to give the visitors a comfortable lead in the third quarter. Payne scored from the 6 yard line after a quarterback sack by Owen Plog who forced a Hyannis fumble. On offense, running back Zaine Feist led the Cats with 2 touchdowns on 14 attempts and 126 yards.

An early turnover by the Bobcats in the opening minutes kept Hyannis in striking range. After that, the first half was control by the Cats. The visitors scored the game’s first 3 touchdowns to go up 22 to 0. A Hyannis score of 14 yards closed the gap to 22 to 8 but Haas returned the ensuing kick 70 yards, making the score 30 to 8 after a successful PAT.

In third period, it was the Cat defense to shine with a sack by Plog and a score by Payne. The extra point was no good as Hemingford took a 36 to 8 lead. Hyannis was then forced to punt on their next drive. Haas returned the punt 33 yards for another Cat score. After a good point after try, the guest’s advantage would stand at 44 to 8. Strong defensive plays by Hemingford later in the period kept a Longhorn comeback at bay. An interception by Carson Haas at the 30 yard line stopped Hyannis next possession. Hemingford’s last score came on a fourth and 7 play from the 29 yard line in the final quarter with Carson Haas adding to the lead. Final Hemingford 58 Hyannis 8
