When you hear weather people talking about the lows and highs for the day, you probably take it for granted that the low was during the overnight hours and the high was during the afternoon. And more times than not, you’d be exactly right. But when you look closely at when the lows and highs occurred, you’d see that the low usually happens first, then the high. Well that just seems strange! But what happens is during the overnight, temperatures tend to keep falling with the lack of sunshine and as you creep closer and closer to sunrise, the temperature keeps falling. So, most of the time, the low for the day is at this time. This can get really confusing sometimes, too. Some might notice that the evening was very mild and look to see what the low was for the day and see that there’s a chilly temperature sitting there…not at all what was first thought. Most likely, that chilly air was around in the morning of the previous day. But there are days, usually when a strong cold front moves through or when there’s an inversion hanging around that temperatures can actually be warmer in the wee hours of the morning than in the afternoon. Us weather people aren’t too fond of those days! But whatever happens, the low and high for the day occurs from midnight to 11:59pm. When the clock strikes midnight again, it’s a new day.

Forecast discussion for the week ahead:
We’re going to see quite a bit of heat in place as we head into the weekend. Isolated storms will be possible as we wrap up the work week, but the weekend and most of next week looks dry and hot. A typical end of July kind of forecast!
