Hilda K. Leachman passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, NE at the age of 97 ½ years old.
She was born on December 6, 1926 to Knud and Rena (Rossen) Thomsen in Frontier County, Nebraska. She grew up in the Curtis area and graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture High School in 1944. Hilda taught for one year with her Normal School Certificate.
Hilda was united in marriage to Marlin Edwards. To this union 5 children were born, Marlin, Donald, Larry, Sharon and Kathy. In 1959 she was united in marriage to Jacob “Jake” Leachman and two children, Teresa and John were born to this union.
Hilda enjoyed a life of volunteerism. She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served on numerous committees, quilted in the basement and helped in the beginning years of the pre-school program. Hilda was also a member of RSVP, delivered Meals on Wheels, American Legion Auxiliary and was always good for 2 dozen cookies for whatever group called.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Marlin and Joni, Donald and Rosezella, Larry and Cynthia, Thomas, Kathy, Teresa and John and Brenda. She was also blessed by 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Waiting to greet her alongside her Heaven Father are her husband, Jake, her parents Knud and Rena, her daughter, Sharon, her son-in-law, Larry, her granddaughter, Christine and her great-grandson, Gage along with a host of other family members and friends.
Hilda, like so many of her generation, held a deep feeling of gratitude for the men and women who served in the military. She asked in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to the Sallows Military Museum or the Veterans State Cemetery at Alliance Foundation.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Shawn Daugherty officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4-6 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.
