On the morning of Thursday, May 12, a group of Vietnam Veterans will travel from Chadron to Denver where they will take part in the Western Nebraska Veterans Honor Flight.
This is the first honor flight to take place in the past two years, as it was suspended due to concerns about COVID-19.
There will be a total of five vans filled with veterans that will depart from Chadron at 10 a.m. on Thursday. As the veterans travel through Alliance, people are encouraged to join a flag line, which will be established on the west side of Highway 385 near Terry’s Corner, to honor the veterans. A flagline meeting is set to take place at 10:30 a.m., with the formation beginning at 10:40 a.m. The group of veterans is expected to proceed through Alliance at approximately 11 a.m. Mary Barthel will serve as the Flag Captain.
The veterans will be escorted by law enforcement throughout the journey, as well as the Patriot Guard Riders.
