On Tuesday, the Hemingford high school track teams traveled to Scottsbluff’s Bearcat stadium to compete in the Best of the West meet. Top finisher for Hemingford was junior Dakota Horstman who won the mile with a time of 5:53. The Lady Cats were second in the 2 mile relay. Joining Horstman in the second place relay were Aurora Hinman Teagan Thompson and Ainslee Woltman. Finishing second and third in the 2 mile were Woltman and Horstman. For the Bobcat boy’s squad, Hemingford had a pair of silver medalists. Taking second in the 2 mile was Austin Benda and grabbing the silver in the discus was Michael Helmink.
“Hemingford had 14 HS and 6 JH athletes qualify for the BITW meet. As a coaching staff we were extremely proud of how the athletes showed up to compete. They represented Hemingford well as competitors and as people! The 20 athletes competed across 14 events and made the top 3 or the medal stand, in 10 of those events!” said Coach Joshua Dean.
