The McCook football team scored 40 first half points and defeated Alliance 57 to 16 in a contest played in McCook on Friday night. With the win the Bison go to 3 and 4 on the year while the Bulldogs drop to 2 and 5. McCook scored six touchdowns in the opening half and led 40 to 8 at halftime.
Alliance got the ball first and were forced to punt. Starting with great the hosts quickly found success on the ground. A 2 yard touchdown run with 7:21 showing on the clock gave the Bison the lead at 6 to 0. Alliance would roll the dice on their next drive on a fourth down run. The attempt came up short and McCook took over on the 29 yard line. With 3:32 on the clock the Bison cashed in on the great field position and scored on 17 yard td pass that pushed the Alliance deficit to 13 to 0. Another 3 and out by the Dogs forced a punt which was returned for a McCook score. At the 3:00 mark the Dogs were down 19 to 0. At the end of the period another McCook touchdown of 3 yards increased their margin to 26 to 0. Alliance’s offensive woes continued into the second quarter. The Dogs punted on their next series and the Bison struck again on a 3 yard touchdown. McCook led 33 to 0 with 9 minutes left in the half. The teams would trade possessions before another long punt return by the hosts gave McCook the ball at the Alliance 6 yard line. With 5:09 left McCook added another score and went up 40 to zero. Alliance answered back with a nice scoring drive. Quarterback Landon Crowe connected with Jonah Amill, Espen Lanik, and Seth Meyring to get the Dogs close. The series concluded with Crowe racing in from the 29 yard line for a Bulldog score. Amill added the pat and the teams went to half with the Dogs down 40 to 8.
Turnovers would plague Alliance in the second half. A pair of Bulldog fumbles stop AHS from scoring. The Bison would cash in on the Alliance miscues. At 7:52 the Bison lead grew to 47 to 8 on an 11 yard touchdown pass. Two minutes later McCook scored again on a 13 yard run to go up 54 to 7. At the end of the period a Bison field goal of 25 yards pushed the McCook advantage to 57 to 8. On Alliance’s final series of the contest the Bulldogs put together a scoring drive. Nice runs by Trini Trejo got the Dogs close. Crowe would end the series by scoring from 5. Trejo added the extra point and with 3 minutes left in the game McCook led 57 to 16. The Bison would run out the final minutes and go on for the victory.
