Huge First Quarter Lifts Cards Past Lady Bulldogs

For three of the four periods, the Alliance girl’s basketball team outplayed and outscored their rivals, Chadron, in a contest played in Alliance on Friday. But in the opening quarter, the guests from Chadron outscored the Dogs to 20 to 0 and went on to post a victory 46 to 38. Alliance scored 38 points in the second, third, and fourth and held the Cardinals to just 26 points but the deficit was too much to overcome. With the loss, AHS now has a 0 and 6 record for the season. Leading the scoring for Alliance was senior Macey Seebohm who tallied 16 points while gathering 10 rebounds. Chadron won the JV game played earlier, The Cardinals took down the Dogs 38 to 24.

All Cardinals in the first period. The visitors bolted to a big lead and the Card’s defense was spot on in shutting out the Lady Bulldogs. Three straight 2 point hoops by the guests were followed by a three as the hosts fell behind 9 to 0 after four minutes of action. The rest of the quarter saw the Cards increase their margin with another trey, a pair of free throws, and three 2 point goals. After one, AHS trailed 20 to 0. Alliance was the aggressor in the second. Three quick Seebohm points got the Dogs on the board. At the 6 minute mark, Chadron would tally their lone score of the quarter to go up 22 to 3. Slowly, the Bulldogs battled back. A free throw by Alliance’s Brooke Bailey began the rally and it was followed by a three pointer by Paz Cody. Down 15, Alliance got the ball to Seebohm and the point guard responded with 6 consecutive points to pull the hosts to within 9, 22 to 13, as the teams went to halftime.

A three ball by Alliance’s Addison Weber started the scoring in the third. Later in the period, another bucket by Weber kept the Dogs in striking distance at 24 to 18. Free throws by the Cards ensued as the guests maintained their advantage. Another hoop by Seebohm and a Weber basket at the 3 minute mark made the score Chadron 30 Alliance 22. Period #3 came to an end with a Cardinal free throw and a goal and the Dogs getting 3 points by Seebohm. Heading to the final 8 minutes of action, Chadron held a 33 to 25 lead. A big three by Cody closed the Alliance gap to 5 to start play in the fourth. Chadron answered with 4 in a row to surge ahead 37 to 28. Seebohm got Alliance close with a steal and a lay up to get the Dogs close at 37 to 30.

Neither team would score until the 4 minute mark when a Cardinal hoop pushed their lead to 9. Alliance came back on a three by Bailey but 4 in a row by Chadron gave the guests some breathing room. Down the stretch, AHS would get a hoop by Shyla Salcido and a three by Miah Marsteller to close within 5 at 43 to 38. But the contest came to an end with 3 free throws by Chadron and the guests hanging on for the 46 to 38 win.
