Hyannis Area Schools is excited to announce the hiring of Randy Hiemstra to teach high school PE and also to work within the counseling department as the Career and College Readiness Coordinator.
Hiemstra, a South Dakota native, graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1979. He earned his undergraduate degree in education from Northern State College where he was a two-year starter on the basketball team for the National Tournament qualifying Wolves. Hiemstra spent the first eight years of his educational career in South Dakota and worked the following 26 years in Nebraska, with stops in Alliance and Hemingford, serving as an assistant principal, activities director and strength and conditioning coordinator, before his employment with the Hyannis Longhorns.
Coaching honors include: Scottsbluff Star-Herald Coach of the Year for Girls Basketball in 1997 and 2000. State tournament qualifiers in basketball 1992, 1996, 1997. 1998, 2000, and 2017 with a Nebraska state runner up in 2000. Football state qualifiers in 1990,1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2012, 2013, and 2014, with a Nebraska state runner up in 2013 and a Nebraska State Championship in 2014. Hiemstra also coached track & field a number of seasons with numerous state place winners. He is married to Angie (Brown) Hiemstra with three grown children, Sydnie, Madison and Mason. The couple are also proud grandparents of two boys, Park and Kenzo.
