James David Wacker, 75, of Hemingford died Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at UC Health Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO.
Jim was born July 18, 1948 in Scottsbluff, NE to Rudy and Elsie (Honstein) Wacker. He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1966. In January of 1967 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist in December 1968. He then returned home to Alliance where he began his career with Burlington Northern Railroad. He married in 1970 and 2 sons were born to this union. He later married again in 1979 and to this union 4 sons were born. The railroad brought Jim and his family to Hemingford in 1998. Jim retired from BNSF in 2008. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved playing cards.
He is survived by his children, Andy Wacker of Omaha, Tony (Julie) Wacker of LaVista, NE, David (Hallie) Wacker of Laramie, WY, Sean (Joelle) Wacker of Shelby, NE and Jason Wacker of Pensacola, FL. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and his sisters, Sherry Craig of Dalton, NE and Pat (Bruce) Dobry of Mitchell, NE and his brothers, Richard (Carol) Wacker and Brian (Susan) Wacker of Hemingford along with numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Mike Wacker, his infant sister, Elizabeth Ann Wacker and his son, J.D. Wacker.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel in Alliance with Reverend Jonathan Seng officiating. Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1-6 p.m. at the funeral home in Alliance.
