Jesus is the Way

A sign board had these words: “Humanity has gone our own way since the Garden of Eden. How’s that been working for us?” We don’t need to think that for very long before we realize the truth of God’s word in Galatians 5:19-21, “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Which one of those sins are not prevalent today? God’s word in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” reminds us that our own way is not working out so well. Isaiah 53:6, reminds us that going our own way is why we need Jesus to be “our way.” Another inviting sign was: “Try it – you might like it.” Some are living life afraid of the change they may have to make should they decide to follow Jesus. Most of life is change without our consent – hair gets gray, strength diminishes, eyes sight dims. Many things require our consent to “try it.” Foods we eat, folks we associate with, and where we shop we do willingly and many times “like it.” Long before the birth of Jesus, God said to His people, “The Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel!” (Isaiah 7:14). That sign was not on a signboard, but in the form of a virgin-born child named Jesus. Jesus is the sign on each Christian’s mind and heart. Jesus is the sign seen in each Christian’s conduct and conversation. All other signs pale when Christ is portrayed in love, in grace and in peace. Accept Jesus, think Jesus, talk Jesus and He will be the best sign ever.
