Jody Wegner

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jody Wegner on January 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Jody was born on August 4, 1936, in Palmer, Nebraska, to Paul and Laura Aschwege. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1954 and married the love of her life, Jim Wegner, in November of that year.

Jody and Jim built a beautiful life together, first in Omaha, Nebraska, where they raised four children. In 1972, they purchased the GM dealership in Alliance, Nebraska, and welcomed their fifth child. The family resided in Alliance until 1992, when Jim and Jody moved to Denver, Colorado. They returned to Alliance in 1999, where they continued to share their lives with family and friends.

Jody was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warm and caring spirit touched everyone she met. She found great joy in spending time with her family, bowling, summers at Lake McConaughy, walking her beloved dog Jake, and hosting family gatherings. Jody also enjoyed playing bridge and pitch, and in recent years, she delighted in sharing Wordle games with her loved ones. Her kindness, humor, and competitive spirit will remain forever cherished by those who knew her.

Jody is survived by her children, Kathy (Chris) Thompson of Brule, NE; Jill (Kent) Green of Alliance, NE; Jenny (Jerry) Dillon of Discovery Bay, CA; and Ryan (Laurie) Wegner of Denver, CO. She was a proud grandmother to 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jody was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Wegner; her parents, Paul and Laura Aschwege; her in-laws, Lawrence and Alice Wegner; her son, Dave Wegner; her granddaughter, Lindsey Green; her grandson, Cale Wegner; her granddaughter-in-law, Kathleen Thompson; her brothers, Jack (Dolly) Aschwege and Joel Aschwege; her brother-in-law, Gib (Bette Mae) Wegner; and her sister-in-law, Virginia (Bill) Kiburz.

A memorial service to celebrate Jody’s life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Bates-Gould Chapel, with Rev. Sue Spencer officiating. Inurnment will follow at Alliance Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wiggly Field Dog Park or Brookstone Hospice of Gering.

Jody’s loving spirit, devotion to her family, and zest for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
