Judy Darlene Swesey, 74, passed away at Box Butte General Hospital on Friday, December 16, 2022.
She was born on May 23, 1948 in Alliance, Nebraska to Pete and Elizabeth “Betty” (Nuss) Schnell. She was the second oldest of nine children. Judy graduated from Alliance High School in 1966. After graduation she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and worked for Back to the Bible for a short time. After returning to Alliance, Judy worked at the Box Butte County Courthouse.
Judy married Gerald (Jerry) Swesey on February 14, 1982 at the Alliance Berean Church. The couple was blessed with two children, Amy and Vernon, along with Jerry’s children Lynn, Dan, and Mark.
In 1985 the couple moved to Imperial, NE. Judy served the Imperial Berean Church and Grant Evangelical Free Church as the pastor’s wife. After years of service the couple moved back to Alliance in 2004 to be closer to family.
Judy loved her family with a passion. She enjoyed gardening, playing piano, taking walks, and cooking for the family. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school and playing the piano for church service. She especially delighted in her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Swesey; her parents, Pete and Betty Schnell; brother, Kenny Schnell; and brothers in law, Jim Shannon and Mike Sorensen.
She is survived by her children, Amy (Todd) Kinsey of Canon City, CO and Vernon (Jordon) Swesey of Grant, NE; stepchildren Lynn (Gary) Ranfeld of Kalamazoo, MI, Dan (Judy) Swesey of Fort Lupton, CO, and Mark Swesey of Maxwell, NE; grandchildren, Derrick, Taylor, Tyler, Spencer, Lucy, Madison, Abby, Ethan, Sophia, Eric, Andrew, Charlotte, and Otto; siblings, Larry (Pam) Schnell, Linda Shannon, Peggy Schnell, Paul (Brenda) Schnell, Steve Schnell, Roy (Vonda) Schnell, and Nancy Sorensen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials can be made to the Alliance Berean Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alliance Berean Church with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service time.
