Junior Spartans Fall at State in Contest with West Point

On Sunday, July 21 the Alliance Spartan Junior team dropped a 6 to 0 contest to West Point. The battle took place in Valley in the second round of the Legion state baseball tourney. The Peltz Co was held to just 2 hits while the Bombers collected 8 on the day. Four Spartans took the mound. The starter was Carver Nemnich while also pitching was Kegan Nelson, Kobe Strom and Jackson Smith.

Action went in the way of West Point right from the start. Batting in the top of the first, the Bombers tallied 2 runs. A walk, single, and an error by the Spartans helped WP surge ahead 2 to 0. Meanwhile the Peltz Co went 1-2-3 in their turn in the first. West Point increased their advantage in the second with another score. The Bombers used the same formula as the first, scoring on a walk, single, and a miscue by Alliance. Nelson was the Spartan pitcher in the third and he set the Bombers down in order. Alliance went down quietly in the bottom of the third and the contest moved to inning #4 with the Spartans tailing 3 to 0.

Two more Bomber runs in the fourth made a comeback difficult for the Spartans. Two WP singles, plus a double made the score 5 to 0. Meanwhile, Alliance’s bats were silent in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth, West Points added another tally following a walk, single, and a wild pitch. Alliance would get their first hit of the game in the home half of the fifth from Kobe Strom, but he was stranded on the bases. The Peltz Co would threaten in the sixth. After the Bombers went scoreless in the inning, Alliance would get a hit by EJ Garcia and a walk to Espen Lanik. Unfortunately, the frame ended with the Bombers recording a double play. No runs were scored in the team’s final attempt as the Bombers went on for the 6 to 0 win.
