A three run fourth inning helped the Alliance Peltz Co Spartans hold off Chadron 8 to 7 in a contest played on Sunday. Alliance was down 5 to 4 in the third frame before getting tying the game then surging ahead in the fourth. Chadron closed the margin to one in the fifth before the rally was put down.
Jackson Smith and EJ Garcia each had 2 hits while Garcia and Carver Nemnich did the pitching for the Peltz Co.
Chadron went scoreless in the top of the opening inning. Spartan Kegan Nelson scored a run for Alliance in the bottom of the ninth. Nelson walked and scored on a Chadron passed ball. Three Platte Valley hits tied the game for Chadron in the second. Alliance responded with 3 runs to go ahead 4 to 1. A single by Garcia, a walk, and an RBI single by Lexton Salcido put Alliance up by one. Smith finished the inning with a 2 run double as the Peltz Co went up by 3.
The guest kept the pressure on with 4 runs in the third. Chadron used 3 hits and a walk to take the lead at 5 to 4. In the home half of the third, Alliance got a tying run on a sacrifice fly by Nemnich.
The visitors were held scoreless in the fourth while Alliance tallied 3 big runs. A couple of walks was followed by another Smith double which put the Spartan lead at 7 to 5. Hits by Creighton Fritzler, Garcia, and Nason Thompson ensued. Chadron would get 2 runs in the fifth but it wasn’t enough.
