Karen Jean Kosmicki, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born September 1, 1940 in Alliance, Nebraska to Carl N. and Catherine (Schefcik) Freimuth. Karen grew up on the family farm 17 miles north of Alliance and she graduated from St. Agnes Academy. She graduated from the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1963. On August 14, 1964 she was united in marriage to Donald Kosmicki in Alliance. They lived in St. Joesph, Missouri and South Dakota prior to making Overland Park their home. Karen was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was very thoughtful of family and friends. Karen cherished time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed many interests including gardening, sewing, cooking, and spending time with friends. Karen enjoyed delivering food to seniors through Meals on Wheels.
Her survivors include her husband, Donald Kosmicki, her children, Bridget (Srikant) Kosmicki, Sara Kosmicki, Alex (Roxann) Kosmicki, Thaddeus Kosmicki and Clara Kosmicki, her son-in-law, Chito Belchez, and her grandchildren, Zoe, Ava, Sanoja, Max, Kelash, Josie and Edison. She is also survived by her brothers, Ray Freimuth and Dave (Evie) Freimuth. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Mike Freimuth, and daughter, Katherine “Kate” Kosmicki.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overland Park, Kansas with a burial following the service. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to iCare Ministry of Northeast Johnson County. Her family wishes to thank all of the care givers at Fresenius Kidney Care Rainbow Blvd-Westwood and the University of Kansas Medical Center for the wonderful care given to our loving mother.
