Lady Crusaders Finish First and Second in High Jump in Opening Meet in Chadron

The 2025 track season began Saturday for the Alliance St. Agnes Academy teams with the Crusaders taking part in the Chadron Junior High Invite. Twelve teams participated. Top highlight for the Academy on the day was a 1-2 finish in the seventh grade girl’s high jump. With a school record tying leap of 4’10, Alliance’s Penn Vergil was the gold medalist with teammate Aubrey Dudden ending second with a mark of 4’6. Vergil was impressive thru out the day, finishing with a gold, 2 second place medals and a third to lead the Crusaders. In the 8th grade girl’s division, St. Agnes’ Reese Armstrong started her season on a good note placing in all 4 of her events. 8th grader Tripp Johnson led the Crusader boy’s scoring with second place finishes in both 800 and mile races while fellow 8th grade Danny Jelinek was second in the high jump. Best finish for the Academy 7th grade boy’s squad came in the mile relay where the Crusaders were second. Team members: Mason Conyers, Declan Kirchner, Tatum Devlin, and Tee Johnson. Team standings had Scottsbluff winning the 7th grade boy’s division with Gering second and St. Agnes 8th with 15 points. Alliance Middle School won the 8th grade boy’s team race with Gering second and the Academy fifth with 32 points. St. Agnes’s best team finish came in the seventh grade girl’s race as the Academy tallied 45 points which was good for 4th. Winning the seventh grade girl’s division was Chadron with Gordon-Rushville taking second. St. Agnes ended with 26 points in the 8th grade girl’s team race which was good for 7th. Gering was first and Niobrara County took 2nd.
