Lady Hornets Sting Bulldogs 49 to 40

Saturday night’s girls basketball contest between Alliance and Pine Bluffs came down to a few plays in order to decide a winner. Unfortunately for the home town Bulldogs, it was the Hornets scoring the game’s last 7 points and going on to post a 49 to 40 win. The game played in Alliance saw a tight contest with both sides having many chances to get a victory. Senior guard Macey Seebohm had an outstanding game for the Dogs, scoring 19 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Alliance now sees their record drop to 0 and 10 for the season. The Lady Bulldogs did get a win in the JV game played earlier. A three pointer and a free throw by Bulldog Paz Cody enable the junior varsity to get a 21 to 18 win in overtime in a matchup limited to 2 quarters.

Pine Bluffs scored first but the Bulldogs came back with 6 straight to take a quick lead. During the run, Alliance got free throws by Seebohm and Brooke Bailey to surge ahead. A hoop by Bulldog Addison Weber ensued as AHS went up 6 to 2 midway through the opening period. At the 5 minute mark, the Hornets scored 4 in a row to tie things at 6. Senior Miah Marsteller then netted a hoop for the Dogs but 6 consecutive by the guests gave the Hornets a lead at 12 to 6. The period came to close with Alliance getting a free throw from Addison Weber and a basket by Shyla Salcido. After one quarter of play, Pine Bluffs led 12 to 11.

Both teams would struggle from the field in the second. Alliance would make only one bucket in the period while the Lady Hornets made just three. The quarter started with back to back buckets by the visitors that put PB up 16 to 11. A Marsteller three trimmed the Alliance deficit to 2 at the 5 minute mark. Pine Bluffs finished the half with a 2 pointer and a free throw while a free throw by Bailey made the score 19 to 15 as the teams went to halftime.

Eight Seebohm points in period #3 helped Alliance stay in striking distance. The Bulldog point guard netted 2 free throws to begin play in the third. Marsteller then added a free throw that pulled Alliance to within one at 19 to 18. With 5 minutes left in the quarter, the Hornets responded with an old fashioned three point play and a 2 to increase their margin to 6. Alliance then made their run with 9 in a row to take a lead. The scoring began with a trey by Cody which was followed by a three ball by Seebohm that knotted the game at 24. Seebohm’s big period continued with a three point play that put the hosts ahead 27 to 24 with under three minutes left in the period. Following a score by the visitors, Alliance got a 2 pointer by Bailey that put AHS in front 29 to 26. The quarter closed with a late push by the Lady Hornets. Pine Bluffs recorded 8 tallies in a row and led 34 to 29 after three periods of play.

Action was fast and furious in the finale. A steal and score by Seebohm helped Alliance close the gap. Seebohm was fouled on the lay up and her free throw reduced the Hornet advantage to 2. Later in the period with the guests ahead by 3, a trey by Seebohm tied the battle at 35 all. Pine Bluffs then would break the tie with 4 straight to move ahead 39 to 35. With 4 minutes left to play, three points by Seebohm pulled the hosts to 2 at 40 to 38.
