Lane R. Nansel Obituary

Lane R. Nansel, 89 of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the First Lutheran Church, Kearney. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday June 3, 2025, at the church. The burial will be after the service at the Callaway Rose Hill Cemetery, Callaway, Nebraska.

Lane was born April 7, 1936, in Arnold, Nebraska to Charles Godfrey Nansel and Mildred “Kitty” Irene (Mason) Nansel. He was united in marriage to Karen M. Keilig in Ravenna, Nebraska. After Karen’s passing, he was united in marriage to Barbara (Mote) Dietrich in Alliance, Nebraska.

He began his career in banking at the Seven Valleys State Bank in Callaway, Nebraska. In 1991 he joined the Nebraska State Banking Department as an examiner. In 1966 he joined the Abbott Banks of Western Nebraska in Alliance, Nebraska, where he remained until retiring to Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.

In 2005 he and Barbara moved to Kearney, Nebraska, where he was active in Kearney Elks Lodge No. 984, and the First Lutheran Church. Lane enjoyed people and a good game of pitch, cribbage or bridge. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker Football and Volleyball fan. He was loved by all who met him.

Lane was preceded in death by wives Karen M. Keilig, and Barbara (Mote) Dietrich.  Lane is survived by his children Vickie Macafee (Dale), Debbie Dobesh (Ronald), and Michael Nansel (Lora); stepchildren Dan Dietrich and Tami McNamee (Mike).  He is grandfather to 11 grandchildren including Ryan Dobesh, Katie Breunig, Kasey McBride, Jesse Nansel, Lisa Macafee, Tammy Williams, Mandy Yearling, Justin Dietrich, Brittany Dietrich, Kaylee Lansden and Kendra Mellette; 16 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren.
