Chadron and Alliance met Tuesday night in volleyball action in a battle played at Alliance High School. In a see saw affair, it was the visiting Cards downing the Lady Bulldogs in 4 sets 25 13 17 25 25 8 25 16. Alliance put together a late surge in the fourth set to make things interesting but in the end it was Chadron taking the win. With the loss, the Dogs drop to 3 and 6 on the season. AHS was successful in the first match. The Bulldogs took down the guests in the opener, winning the reserve contest by scores of 25 23 25 23. Chadron then won the second game of the evening. In three sets, the Cardinals won the JV ball game 25 19 19 25 15 9.
Big scoring sprees in the first set carried the Cards. An early kill by Bulldog Addison Weber gave AHS their only lead in the set at 1 to 0. Tied at 3, it was all Chadron. The guests went on a 7 to 1 run to go up 10 to 4. Alliance would get a kill from Ahrianna Galvan to stop the rally but 3 more Chadron tallies put the Alliance deficit at 12 to 6. Midway thru the set, the Dogs stayed close thanks to another kill by Weber and an ace spike by Ryli Poss. Weber then continued her fine play with another kill plus an ace serve as AHS made it a 16 to 10 game. The set came to an end with Chadron pulling away. A point by Bulldog Paz Cody along with a kill by Maslin Breen gave AHS a chance but the Cards proved to be too much. Final of set #1 Chadron 25 13.
Eight points by Cody in set 2 key an Alliance victory. Early kills and points by Weber, Poss, and Alexis Libsack helped the Bulldogs take an early lead. Ahead 5 to 3, Cody went to the service line and scored 8 straight to give the hosts a 13 to 3 margin. Alliance got kills in the run from Kaiah Adams and Breen as AHS gain control. Four consecutive scores later in the set by Kenley Jelinek foiled a Card comeback. The set closed with the Dogs getting another Weber kill and an ace block by the senior and Alliance winning 25 to 17.
Set #3 was all Chadron. Kills by Libsack and Olivia Krejci kept the Dogs in the hunt at 7 to 4 but it was the guests dominating the action. An ace serve by Alliance’s Reese Armstrong made the score 7 to 5. It was close as the Lady Dogs would get as a Cardinal run of 14 to 1 put the set away. Kills by Weber and Krejci finished off the set with Chadron getting the win at 25 to 8.
Four straight tallies by the visitors in the finale put the Dogs in a big hole. Two straight points by Alliance’s Brooke Bailey would close the gap to 1 at 4 to 3. Chadron accounted with an another run. The Lady Cardinals scored 8 in a row to surge ahead at 19 to 6. Facing match point at 24 to 10, Bailey went to the line and scored 6 straight to get the Dogs close. Weber had 2 more kills during the run but Chadron was able to score the final point and get the fourth set win 25 to 16.
