Late Rally by Spartans is Not Enough in One Run Loss to McCook

In game #2 of a home doubleheader with McCook, the Alliance Spartan Senior club lost a heartbreaker 6 to 5. Alliance also dropped game one 10 to 2 in the first game of the twin bill. The Peltz Co fell behind 6 to 0 early in the contest before a late rally pulled them within one. MNB shut out the hosts in their final at bat in getting the victory. Pitching for the Spartans were: Braeden Clarke, who went 4 innings, Lexton Salcido and Kaden Ferguson.

With Clarke on the mound, the guests went 1-2-3 in their first try at the plate. A McCook double play ruined any chances for Alliance to get into the scoring column in the bottom of the inning. The guests put 2 runs on the scoreboard in the second. McCook used a hit by batter, 2 singles, and an Alliance miscue to take a 2 to 0 lead. No more runs were then scored until the top of inning #4. Using 5 hits plus a walk and an error by the Spartans, the visitors plated 4 more runs to move ahead 6 to 0.

Alliance answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Two Spartan walks were followed by an RBI single by Mikey Johnson and a RBI ground out by Alliance’s Espen Lanik. In the fifth, McCook was denied a chance to increase their margin as the Peltz Co turned a double play of their own. Ferguson began a rally for the Spartans, reaching on a hit by pitch. A hit by Kobe Strom ensued.

With Ferguson on third, a sac fly by Tony Escamilla followed, putting the score at 6 to 3. Strom then scored on a McCook passed ball and the contest went to the sixth with the Spartans down just by 2 at 6 to 4. With Salcido now pitching, the guests failed to score. Lanik walked and stole second to begin the action in the bottom of the inning. An RBI hit by Ferguson pulled the Peltz Co to within 1 at 6 to 5. Ferguson then would record 2 strikeouts in McCook last attempt but Alliance was also denied any runs in their last bat. Final McCook 6 Alliance 5
