Late Rally Lifts Navy Club Past Mitchell 4 to 3

A one run victory by the Alliance Navy squad started day four of the Conley tournament which held in Alliance. The Spartans edged Mitchell 4 to 3 in a nine inning thriller on Sunday. A hit by Alliance’s Fletcher Moseman gave the hosts a walk off W. With the victory, the Peltz Co improves to 17-18-1 on the season. Moseman was also strong on the hill, pitching 7 plus innings as the Alliance starter. The Peltz Co also had a nice performance from reliever Miguel Galvan who finished the matchup and got the win. Braeden Clarke led the offense with 2 of the Spartans 5 knocks. The Navy ended the four day tourney going 2 and 3.

Three hits by the guests in the opener gave Mitchell a 1 to 0 lead. Alliance failed to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning. Moseman held Mitchell scoreless in the second and record a strikeout. Momentum then went to the side of the Peltz Co as the Spartans tallied 2 scores in the bottom of the frame to go up 2 to 1. Teagan O’Gorman started things with a walk and advanced after a knock by Jackson Smith. Free passes to Moseman and Casyn Rodriguez tied the game at 1. An RBI groundout by Alliance’s Creighton Fritzler ended the scoring with the Navy team up 2 to 1. Mitchell threaten in the third but a double play turned by the Peltz Co stopped the rally. Alliance went scoreless in the home half and with three innings in the book, Alliance led 2 to 1.

A single and an RBI double by the visitors tied the battle at 2 in the top of inning 4. Meanwhile, the Spartan bats were quiet in the home half of the frame. Innings 5,6,7, and 8 were scoreless for both teams. Alliance would get hits by Clarke in the fifth and seventh innings but no tallies. Inning #8 had the Peltz Co spin a double play to keep Mitchell off the board. A knock by Spartan Tanner Salcido in the bottom of the eighth gave Alliance hope but he was left on the bases.

A sacrifice fly by Mitchell in the top of the ninth helped the guests go up 3 to 2. Both teams started the inning with a runner on third. In the bottom of the ninth, a sac bunt by O’Gorman knotted the contest at 3. Smith was next and he walked setting the stage for Moseman. A hit to center by the Spartan starting pitcher plus an error by Mitchell ended the marathon contest. Final Alliance 4 Mitchell 3
