Late Rally Lifts White Squad over Navy Team 6 to 4

On Wednesday, May 7, a doubleheader was played in Legion baseball between the Spartan White and the Spartan Navy clubs. A 2 run double by Kobe Strom was the difference in a 6 to 4 win for the White team in the opener. Strom’s clutch hit came in the final inning of the contest. The White team had 12 hits on the evening led by 3 knocks by Creighton Fritzler. Adding 2 hits apiece for the Peltz Co were: Espen Lanik, Jaxon Poss, Strom, and Carver Nemnich. Leading the offense the Navy squad was Eban Lore who had 2. Pitching for the teams were: Lanik, Jackson Smith, Tony Escamilla, Miguel Galvin and Fletcher Moseman.

Runs were tough to muster in the early innings of the contest. Both teams failed to score in the first 3 innings. A hit by Fritzler in the second was quickly erased by a Spartan double play. Nemnich singled in the third but failed to score. In the top of the fourth, both clubs got on the board. Singles by Lanik and Poss started a rally for the White. Fritzler then had an RBI single that made the score 1 to 0. A Lore hit in the home half of the inning got the Navy team off to a good start. An error and a wild pitch then knotted the score at 1 after 4 innings of action.

Escamilla would reach after being hit by a pitch is how inning #5 began for the White team. A single by Nemnich ensued and both runners eventually scored on a pair of Navy errors. The Navy went 1-2-3 in their attempt in the fifth and the game went to the sixth with the White up 3 to 1. Hits by Strom and Fritzler kept the momentum on the White team in top of the sixth. An RBI double by Jaxson Esparza was next as the Peltz Co White went ahead 4 to 1. In their try in the bottom of the sixth, the Navy answered right back with 3 runs to tie the game at 4. A pair of batters reached after being hit by pitches to start the rally. A single by Lore plated run #2 as the Navy got close. Moseman then made the score 4 to 3 with a single and the rally closed with a run scoring pass ball. After 6 innings of play, the game was tied at 4. In the last inning, hits by Lanik and Poss sent up Strom who responded with a double. Final White 6 Navy 4
