Law Enforcement Expand Search Area for Salway

The Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office offered the following update on the search for Harley Salway on Friday evening:

Local and surrounding authorities are continuing their search for Harley Salway III and continue to reach out to the public for assistance. Recent updates in the investigation have led law enforcement to believe that Salway may no longer be in the Alliance or Scottsbluff, Nebraska areas. With this development the search efforts are being expanded beyond these locations and into other surrounding states.
Attached are more photographs of Salway and what he may resemble, now that he may have removed his facial hair in an attempt to evade law enforcement or detection by community members.
Salway is known to have connections in several other states, particularly Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming and New Mexico. Given this information, law enforcement agencies encourage anyone who may have information regarding Salway’s whereabouts or any potential sightings to come forward. Citizens are urged not to approach Salway if they see him, as it is believed that he could potentially be armed with a handgun. Instead, individuals should contact their local law enforcement agency immediately for assistance.
Harley Salway III had arrest warrants issued against him in February 2024 following his abscondment. He was apprehended later in December of the same year regarding the charges that were filed against him. While we understand there could be concerns in the community, law enforcement assures the public that there are currently limited safety concerns related to the ongoing investigation.
Authorities from the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office and the Alliance Police Department, along with many other agencies, are actively involved in the search and investigation. We urge the community to remain vigilant and to report any relevant information, no matter how minor it may seem. Community assistance is a vital part of law enforcement strategies in tracking down individuals who may pose a risk.
Anyone with information should contact the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office at (308) 762-6464 or the Alliance Police Department at (308) 762-4955. Both agencies are committed to ensuring the safety of the community and appreciate any assistance that the public can provide.
Law enforcement officials stress the importance of safety in these types of situations. If you believe you have seen Salway or have any knowledge that could aid in locating him, please prioritize your safety and refrain from any direct engagement. Instead, rely on the professionals who are equipped to handle potentially dangerous situations.
We thank the public for their continued support and cooperation as we work towards resolving this situation.
