Lila Fiebig Obituary

Lila Fiebig, 97, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Lila Lee Vanderwerth was born in Bryan, Texas on October 1, 1923.  She graduated from Stephen F. Austin Senior High School, Bryan, TX in 1940, and from Texas State College for Women, Denton, TX in 1943.

She worked in Corpus Christi, TX for Celanese Corporation; San Francisco for the Atomic Energy Commission; New Haven, CT, for the FBI; and in Denver, CO for the Shell Oil Company.

She and Glen Fiebig were married in Denver on June 4, 1955.  They lived in Alliance all of their married life.  Glen preceded Lila in death on October 4, 2014.

Glen and Lila had two children. Glen, Jr. died of leukemia in 1992.  He received his bachelor’s in electrical engineering from University of Nebraska and his master’s in electrical engineering from Iowa State.  He worked for the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, MD.  He was married to Carolyn Brittain.

Glen and Lila established the Glen A. Fiebig, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Nebraska for upperclassmen in electrical engineering.

Lee Ann, who lives with her husband David Mathine and son Thomas Glen in Albuquerque, NM, received her bachelor’s in computer science engineering from University of Nebraska, her master’s from Purdue University in electrical engineering, and her PhD in biomedical engineering from Arizona State University.

Lila taught Spanish, English, typing and ACT at Alliance High School.

She was active in the Republican Party; she served as county chairman and coordinator for many candidates and on state committees.  She was also a delegate to four national conventions.

She was a member of the Chancellor’s Club of the University of Nebraska Foundation; the First Presbyterian Church; a Trustee of the Nebraska State Historical Society; a member of the Republican State Central Committee; Secretary of the Box Butte County Republican Central Committee; Electoral College Delegate; and Secretary of the Box Butte General Hospital Building Committee.

Memorials may be given to the University of Nebraska Foundation, 1010 Lincoln Mall #300, Lincoln, NE  68508 to support the Hope Fund for Lymphoma and Leukemia Research.

The memorial service will be Saturday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Westside Event Center.  Jeanie Sedivy will conduct the service and inurnment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.
