Margaret E. (Vera) Soto Obituary

Margaret E. (Vera) Soto age 92, died March 10, 2025 in Bridgeport, Nebraska. Margaret was born in her beloved Bayard, Nebraska on April 11, 1932 to Manuel Sr., and Margarita (Reyes) Vera. Margaret was one of 12 children, two of whom died in infancy.

Margaret was united in marriage on August 19, 1950 to the love of her life, Albert J. Soto and moved to Alliance where her two children, Albert Jr. and Sandra were born. She worked in various locations in the Alliance area; however, when her children began raising their families, she decided to stay home and become the grandmother she always wanted to be by caring for her grandchildren. Taking care of her grandchildren was the greatest joy and highlight of her life. Several holidays and birthdays were held at grandma’s house and the grandchildren looked forward to delicious food and delectable enchiladas. Margaret also enjoyed her hobby of crocheting large afghans, which she gladly gave to the grandchildren as a remembrance of her.

Margaret’s survivors include her children: Albert Soto Jr., Sandra (Peter) Mortaro; grandchildren, Anton (Kendra), Eric (Dana) Mortaro, Koren (Troy) Lorensen, Jill (Chris) Rashleigh and six great-grandchildren. Surviving brothers include, Tomas Vera of Arizona, and Ernest (Lucy) Vera of Nebraska; sister-in-laws Jayne Soto of Wyoming, Natalie Vera of Texas plus numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Guadalupe, her brothers, Jesus, Manuel, Innocente, John (Julia), Philip (Cecilia), Leo (Eloise), Wallace (Jane), and Henry (Alice).

Special Thanks and sincere gratitude to the Alliance eucharistic ministers, friends and extended family members who were caring enough to visit and show concern during her transitions in life. Also, extreme gratitude goes out to the staff at Bridgeport Skyview Nursing Home, Morrill County Hospital and to Father Stoner of All Souls Catholic Church, including the eucharistic ministers of Bridgeport, Nebraska.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance on March 21, at 10 A.M., the Rosary will be recited at 9 A.M. in church before Mass begins. Burial will take place at the Calvary Cemetery in Alliance with Reverend Koperski officiating.
