Ten runs on ten hits was too much for the Alliance Peltz Co seniors to overcome in a matchup Sunday in Alliance. The hometown Spartans fell behind early and dropped a 10 to 2 contest against McCook. Five first inning runs by McCook proved to be too much. Spartan Espen Lanik was the starting pitching, going 4 innings while Jackson Smith finished the fifth. Lanik was Alliance’s top hitter on the evening, ending with 2 hits.
MNB Bank from McCook was sharp at the plate in the opening inning. The guests used 4 hits, an Alliance error, and a passed ball to surge ahead 5 to 0. A key two run double helped McCook get off to a fast start. Lanik began the Alliance scoring in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff triple. The Peltz Co squad would then score their first run when Lanik raced home on an RBI out by Kaden Ferguson. After one inning of play, Alliance trailed 5 to 1. McCook continued their pressure in the second with 3 more tallies. Three hits by the visitors plus a walk and an RBI groundout put the score at 8 to 1. Meanwhile the Peltz Co failed to score in the second despite a single by Spartan Nason Thompson. Both squads went 1-2-3 in the third.
Lanik sat down McCook in the fourth with no runs. Unfortunately Alliance went scoreless in the their attempt in the fourth. The Spartans did get a hit from Jaxon Poss in their frame. With Smith pitching now, McCook increased their advantage in their last at bat. MNB used 3 singles and a walk to move ahead 10 to 1. Post 203 then won the contest after the fifth due to the run rule.
Alliance mustered one run in their final at bat. A triple by Smith was followed by an RBI double by Cody Gallas. The Spartans would get another hit by Lanik but he was stranded. Final McCook 10 Alliance 2.
