Within the course of less than 30 minutes, the Alliance Police Department responded to two separate accidents on May 1.
The first wreck occurred at the intersection of Cody Avenue and Third Street, with the report coming in at 4:30 p.m. Alliance Police Department Chief Philip Lukens said that the accident was the result of a vehicle running a red light.
“A Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was traveling west bound on W. 3rd Street approaching the intersection of W. 3rd Street and Cody Avenue,” said Lukens. “This vehicle traveled through a red light, causing a Chevrolet Impala sedan traveling north-bound on Cody Avenue to impact the truck in the driver’s side.”
Lukens said one driver was transported to Box Butte General Hospital for treatment and that no alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. The sedan was driven by Angel Dawn and the truck was driven by Arnold Keller. Keller was issued a citation for a traffic control device.
The second crash that occurred was reported at 4:57 p.m., involving a vehicle striking a building in the 500 block of Box Butte Avenue. Lukens said a vehicle left the roadway and struck a building after the driver lost control.
“The female driver of a Chevrolet Impala lost control of her motor vehicle while traveling north bound on the 500 block of Box Butte Avenue, where the sedan crossed lanes into the oncoming lane of travel before leaping the curb and impacting a building,” said Lukens.
Lukens explained that a possible medical condition is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash. The driver, who was identified as Hilary Blonien was transported to BBGH. No citation was issued.
