On Thursday, the Peltz Co Navy squad faced the Prep team in a doubleheader played in Alliance in American Legion Baseball action. Game 1 saw the navy down the preps 11 to 3 thanks to an 8 run second inning. Pitching for the prep team were Kylar Adams and Braden Myers while taking the mound for the navy group were Kyler Hamel and Jayden Garcia. Casyn Nelson, Dixon Bair, and Silas Lilley-Stone had knocks for the preps. Leading the offense for the Navy was Teegan O’Gorman.
Action began with a score by the Preps in the top of the first. A Bair double got things going and the second baseman would score the game’s first tally following an error by the navy. In the home half of the frame, the Navy went ahead with a pair of runs. O’Gorman had hit and scored on an RBI hit by Carson Stull that knotted the game at 1. After a walk, a steal of home by Tanner Salcido made the scoreboard read 2 to 1 after one inning of play.
In the second, the prep would not score. Eight big tallies by the navy followed, giving them a 9 run cushion. A couple of walks and a prep miscue made the score 3 to 1. Salcido then had a single that plated 2 more tallies. Another steal of home plus 2 passed balls made the scorebook read 8 to 1. The inning came to an end with RBI hits by Hamel and O’Gorman. After 2 complete, the navy surge ahead 10 to 1 Both teams had success in the third as the Preps scored 2 and the Navy put one on the board. Cisco Cody started things for the preps by reaching on an error by the Navy. A Nelson hit was next and an RBI out would score the prep’s second run. A steal of home by Roy Torres ended the inning with the preps slicing their deficit to 7 at 10 to 3. Eban Lore had a hit in bottom of inning #4 and eventually the Navy scored on a prep wild pitch. In the top of the final inning, a hit by Lilley-Stone was the highlight but the prep team failed to score. Final Navy 11 Prep 3.
