The Nebraska Homeowner Assistance Fund (NHAF) — established in February 2022 to prevent mortgage delinquencies, defaults, foreclosures and displacement for pandemic-impacted Nebraska homeowners — has allocated all of its funds. Homeowners still needing assistance can visit NebraskaHAF.com/resources to find alternate resources.
Nebraska distributed $45 million in program funds from the U.S. Treasury to 3,093 income-qualified, pandemic-impacted homeowners. Nearly one-third of households assisted, or 979 households, qualified as socially disadvantaged households (those who reside in census tracts with a minority population of 30% or more). Assistance reached 85 of Nebraska’s 93 counties.
“Nebraska Investment Finance Authority is happy to have helped so many impacted homeowners with the NHAF dollars the state was awarded,” said Shannon Harner, executive director of NIFA. “Thousands of Nebraskans are still in their homes thanks to this critical program, and we will continue to find ways to help support our communities when needs arise.”
Nationally, the Homeowner Assistance Fund helped 501,523 homeowners remain in their homes according to the U.S. Treasury. Including administrative expenses, HAF programs expended more than $7.4 billion in program funds nationwide, 77 percent of the total federal allocation.
Emergency Rental Assistance: The second round of the Nebraska Emergency Rental Assistance program is still accepting applications for assistance with rent and utility payments. Applicants must rent their primary home in Nebraska, meet income qualifications and have experienced financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents of Douglas and Lancaster counties are not eligible, as these counties have their own assistance programs. Learn more and apply at NebraskaRentHelp.org.
