A big third inning powered the Alliance White squad past McCook 13 to 5 in baseball action on Sunday. The Spartans, who were down 3 to 1 after 2 innings, plated 9 tallies in getting the victory. Alliance picked up their 16th win on the season along with 2 loses and 1 tie. The Peltz Co also downed FCB back on May 17.
Two Spartans- Kegan Nelson and Lexton Salcido- limited McCook to just 6 hits. Nelson struck out 6 while pitching 5.1 innings. Alliance finished with 10 hits. Ending with 2 hits each were: Jaxon Poss, Tony Escamilla, and Mikey Johnson.
In the first, both teams got on the board. Poss began the action by reaching on an error by First Central Bank. A sac bunt by Creighton Fritzler was next. Poss then scored after an RBI double by Escamilla. McCook answered back with a 3 spot in the bottom of the opening inning. Nelson would record 2 k’s for Alliance but three hits and a walk by FCB made the score 3 to 1 after one inning of play. Inning #2 was scoreless for each club. The Peltz Co got a hit from Jaxson Esparza but did not score.
Six Spartan knocks in the third swung the momentum to Alliance. Poss again started the rally, reaching the base paths on a miscue by McCook. A hit by Fritzler was next and after Escamilla reached while being struck by a pitch, Alliance loaded the bases for Carver Nemnich. The Spartan first baseman walk as the score went to 3 to 2. A two run scoring hit followed by Johnson that gave the Peltz Co a 4 to 3 advantage. Esparza was next and got on the paths following another McCook error. It also resulted in run 5. The spree continued with 4 more RBI knocks. Lexton Salcido drove in Alliance’s sixth tally. It was followed by a Braeden Clarke 2 run double. The inning closed with hits by Poss and Escamilla. Heading to the bottom of the third, the Peltz Co squad was up 10 to 3. Nelson held FCB scoreless in the home half of the third.
Innings four and five saw both teams go with no tallies. Nelson had 2 more strikeouts for Alliance in the McCook’s attempt in the fourth. In the sixth, the Peltz Co increased its margin. Alliance scored twice. Nemnich reached on a hit by batter and scored on Johnson’s RBI double. The Spartan lead went to 12 to 3 with Salcido getting an RBI groundout. First Central Bank also got 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth. McCook used a pair of singles and an error by Alliance to cut their deficit to 7. The inning closed with the Peltz Co turning a double play. A triple by Poss in the seventh helped Alliance grab an insurance run. Poss would score following a groundout RBI by Fritzler.
